Frequently Asked Questions

I must surrender my bird because of a move, however I do not feel I can financially give up his/her cage, will you still take in my bird?

Of course we will still take in your little feathers, we simply ask that they come with something no matter how small. We’d greatly appreciate any cages, however we realize that this is not always possible and we understand completely. From time to time we may be able to give you a small sum for the cage if it’s a size we regularly need so it never hurts to ask.

Do you accept other species, and not just conures?

Yes we are able to accept any bird species, however our abilities and housing are tailored to conures specifically. For instance we will rarely be able to take in a macaw without a very dedicated foster home. However if its in the small to mid sized range, we will almost always say yes if we have the room.

Are quakers conures?

Scientifically they are classified separately, however in care and habits they are remarkably similar.

If I have 2 senegals living together, do they count as 1 or 2 of your rescue spaces available?

IF they are in the same enclosure, then we only count them as one. The amount of space we have is cage space. We always have plenty of food, toys, and time, but maybe not free cages since they must all have a separation period before being considered for placing into a flock.

Can you take in endangered, or otherwise exotic birds?

We are working on getting all our licenses at the moment, but will be available soon. If you have one un current need of a home we will gladly refer you to a capable place.

You rescue animals as a company, however you readily provide references, contact info, and help to other rescue facilities. Aren’t they competition?

Yes and no. The animals are our primary concern, so if their well being would be heightened at another place, we will gladly tell you so. We do not believe their should be such heavy competition of rescues working towards a common goal.

Do you need volunteers, supplies donated foster homes, etc.?

Always. We will never turn you down. We may not have an immediate need, but we will sure have one soon. We are always expanding and always need people on our mailing list.

May we tour your facility?

Our facility is not public and is housed on private residents. Because of this we do not have regular hours. However if you are looking at one of our adoptable birds, have one of your old birds here, are thinking of volunteering, etc. we will gladly set up a time convenient for us both for you to do so.

Why have I never heard of you before?

We do not advertise, we do not solicit, we are not marketers, we spend no money on advertising, etc. etc. We are known by those in the field or those who love birds and only spread via word of mouth and by the help of great volunteers.

Are you a breeder? I’m looking to start breeding for a profit and could use some advice?

We do not actively breed animals, however there is a possibility of it occurring naturally in one of our flocks. It hasn’t happened yet, but we would be more than willing to raise the offspring and adopt them out to loving families looking for a baby bird but not wanting to support backyard breeders. My advice to current breeders, please think about what is best for your birds. Breeding is natural, but only in moderation and breeder animals shouldn’t be kept in small cages and used to pump out as many eggs as possible. This is just cruel. As for future breeders, breed for a hobby and for your love of the species, not for profit. I have only met a few quality breeders who went above breaking even.

Can I apply to adopt a bird not on your adoption page?

Sorry, but not all of our birds are available for adoption. There are many that will not be on our site because they are living out their final days with us in peace. However if you do see one in a featured article that you believe you could offer a “PERFECT” home to and really want to prove it to us. Sign up to be a volunteer or foster that bird. We know that nothing is definite in this world and pets have to choose their owners as much as owners choosing their pets. So get involved and if there is a connection, we will be able to help both of you out.

There are no animals on your page, but I would really like to adopt from you, can I be put on a waiting list?

At the moment we only allow animal professionals to be put on the waiting list. This is because the amount of time and effort for the application and checking qualifications of any applicant is high and these will be the easiest to validate and stay constant until an animal comes up that fits their criteria.

I absolutely cannot keep my bird and your facility is the only one I trust, can I rehome my bird to you even if it says you have no openings?

Openings change daily, but our site is only updated weekly so it never hurts to send us an email. We are constantly expanding and would love to help out in any way we can.

What is a typical adoption fee? What does this cover? Where does the money go?

Adoption fees vary due to species rarity, age, living requirements, etc. However they are a very small fraction of a pet store or breeder cost. Often ranging in the 50-150 range. This covers a health check, starter food supply, temporary cage, and care guide. They money goes to the cost of feeding, housing, and medical expenses of the birds here. We are not for profit and do not have any paid staff!

There is a bird I desperately wish to adopt but I am a little short on the fee? Will a great home make up for this, or can I barter?

Adoption fees are made as low as we possibly can to realiably predict you for the cost of caring for the animal, however we may be able to barter with supplies and even lower the fee for our regular volunteers.

Can I trade my cockatoo for one of yours?

I’m not sure where the act of trading pets comes from, but the entire idea kind of scares us here. Maybe there is a rare case we will entertain if it is best for your bird and our bird, but it’s so rare that we will have to address it when it comes up.

Ok so I have a cage that has been sitting outside and looks horrid, do you still want it?

If you want to drop it off, we will gladly take it and see what creative thing we can do with it. However if you need us to come and get it, let us know how horrid it is J

What kind of things besides very obvious bird items do you need on a regular basis?

Brush cleaners, dish type and wire grill type, all natural spray cleaners, produce, bird safe branches and plants, dog kennels, fencing, screening from a patio or pool, other animal toys, plastic totes, travel bags for other animals, bird books, bird art for auctioning, leather, soda can tabs, popsicle sticks, tools, etc. Sign up for our newsletter for our monthly specific needs
